Las Vegas Wavefront LASIK
LASIK vision correction has helped millions of people achieve vision correction while eliminating the need for glasses and contact lenses. Approximately 1.4 million LASIK procedures were performed last year in the United States, and the popularity of Las Vegas LASIK surgery continues to grow.
One of the reasons for the increased interest in LASIK is the development of a newer, more advanced form of LASIK in Las Vegas called customized LASIK or Wavefront LASIK. This variation on LASIK technology utilizes wavefront analysis to customize your LASIK procedure to the exact specifications of each eye. The result is often vision that is better than 20/20, with the correction of both larger and smaller vision issues.

Customized LASIK Eye Surgery
Traditional LASIK eye surgery in Las Vegas utilizes a cold laser to reshape the cornea of the eye, correcting nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. The cornea is reshaped to standardized specifications, equivalent to standardized corrective lenses. While LASIK is effective in treating ordinary visual defects, other irregularities associated with the eye's optical system could not be addressed until the advent of wavefront and related technology used in custom LASIK.
A Truly Customized Vision Correction
Wavefront technology allows your ophthalmologist to measure each eye's own unique, complex set of visual irregularities to create an "optical fingerprint." Using wavefront analysis, this extraordinarily accurate three dimensional map of the entire eye's optical system is created. The wavefront map is able to measure the optical distortions and aberrations of the eye with 25 times the accuracy of conventional glasses or contact lenses measurements.
This information is then electronically transferred to the laser and computer-matched to the eye's position. The optical fingerprint is sculpted directly into the cornea, creating a truly customized vision correction. Since this refractive procedure corrects a broader range of visual irregularities, many patients who undergo custom wavefront-assisted LASIK eye surgery in Las Vegas achieve vision results that are better than 20/20.
Is Wavefront LASIK Right for Me?
Despite this exciting breakthrough in vision correction, discussion is ongoing about the benefits and limitations of customized LASIK eye surgery. People with certain optical considerations may not be candidates for custom LASIK. Like conventional LASIK, custom Las Vegas LASIK will not cure all vision-related problems, so it is important to discuss its applications with your ophthalmologist to determine if Wavefront LASIK is right for you.
