Dr. Westfield has been a lifelong believer in education. Over 28 years ago Dr. Westfield started a program of mandatory continuing education for his employees. The years have passed, the staff has substantially changed, but the continuing education is still a fixture in the lives of Westfield Eye Center employees.
Our staff receives one hour of continuing education at every staff meeting. Each hour of education is on a relevant ophthalmic subject that is researched and presented by staff members under the supervision of a staff doctor. Each "education team", consisting of both front office and back office personnel as well as a doctor, has more than a month to prepare their presentation. Handouts, Power Point presentations and visual aids are employed by the education teams during the seminars. The presentations include the most recent research, so that our staff can stay on top of the latest developments in technology and procedures pertaining to ophthalmology.
Dr. Westfield knows that employees who have researched an ophthalmic topic and presented their own seminars retain more knowledge of the subject while gaining confidence as a public speaker. He has long felt that the combination of knowledge and a positive demeanor mark an employee as one who is better able to serve the patient and, at the Westfield Eye Center, the patient comes first.
